Applications are invited from suitably qualified local candidates for the following vacant position tenable at the Southern Division of the High Court in Mohale’s Hoek:

JOB TITLE: Assistant Registrar
GRADE: G
NO. OF POSTS: Two (2)
RESPONSIBLE TO: Deputy Registrar

Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Deputy Registrar of the North Region High Court, the incumbent is responsible for the administration of justice, judicial administration, and management of the High Court.

Main Duties

1. To Implement Case Flow Management Plan
1.1 Enrolls unopposed cases for motion proceedings.
1.2 Submits opposed cases for mediation.
1.3 Allocates cases to individual Judges’ dockets.
1.4 Submits case allocation proposals for approval.
1.5 Prepares weekly individual Judges’ court lists.
1.6 Allocates cases to Assessors and issues roll.
1.7 Prepares individual Judges’ roll call.
1.8 Prepares Judges’ duty roster.
1.9 Publishes court lists.
1.10 Issues court processes.
1.11 Safeguards case exhibits.
1.12 Initiates measures for safekeeping of court records.
1.13 Convenes the court to facilitate hearings.
1.14 Allocates transcription of records.
1.15 Supervises execution of criminal and civil judgments.

2. To Exercise Quasi-Judicial Functions
2.1 Taxes Bills of Costs.
2.2 Fixes security for costs.

3. Supervision of Staff
3.1 Supervises and manages performance of staff.
3.2 Reports on staff performance.
3.3 Disciplines staff under supervision.
3.4 Recommends training needs to enhance performance.

Problem Solving: Must resolve issues from subordinate offices, clients, and staff misconduct
Supervision Received: Expected to work independently and report to the Deputy Registrar

Mental Effort: Requires high-level strategic thinking, planning, coordination, and organization

Working Conditions

Hazards: Risk of attack by dissatisfied individuals
Work Hours: May require working irregular hours
