JOB TITLE : ASSISTANT REGISTRAR

GRADE : G

RESPONSIBLE TO : DEPUTY REGISTRAR

JOB SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of Deputy Registrar of North Region High Court, the incumbent is responsible for administration of justice and judicial administration and management of the High Court.

MAIN DUTIES

  1. TO IMPLEMENT CASE FLOW MANAGEMENT PLAN
    1.2 Enrolls unopposed cases for motion proceedings.
    1.3 Submits opposed cases for mediation proceedings.
    1.4 Allocates cases to individual Judges’ dockets.
    1.5 Submits case allocation proposal for approval.
    1.6 Prepares weekly individual Judges’ court lists.
    1.7 Allocates cases to Assessors and issues roll.
    1.8 Prepares individual Judges’ roll call.
    1.9 Prepares Judges’ duty roster.
    1.10 Publishes court lists.
    1.11 Issues court processes.
    1.12 Safeguards case exhibits.
    1.13 Initiates measures for safekeeping of court records.
    1.14 Convenes the court to facilitate hearing of cases.
    1.15 Allocates transcription of records.
    1.16 Supervises execution of criminal and civil judgments

  1. To exercise quasi-judicial functions
    2.1 Taxes Bill of Costs.
    2.2 Fixes security for costs.
  2. SUPERVION OF STAFF

3.1 Supervises and manages performance of staff under his/her supervision.
3.2 Reports on performance of staff under his/her supervision.
3.3 Disciplines staff under his/her supervision.
3.4 Recommends training needs to enhance performance.

RESPONSIBILITY
For work of others: The incumbent takes full responsibility for performance of staff under his/her supervision.

For property: Minimal

For effect of Errors: The incumbent is responsible for all errors committed by staff under his/her supervision.

COMPLEXITY
Authority for decision making: The incumbent has the authority for management of staff under his/her supervision.
Problem solving: The incumbent must be capable of decisively dealing with problems arising from offices under his/her supervision, clients, misconduct of staff and resolving conflicts.
Supervision received: The incumbent is expected to work independently and report to the Deputy Registrar.

EFFORT
Mental effort: The job requires a high level of concentration on thinking strategically, planning, coordinating and organizing.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Hazards: Likelihood of attack by dissatisfied individuals.
Sometimes must work awkward hours.
