Assistant Legal Counsel

The Assistant Legal Counsel will be required to:
+ Engage with key stakeholders throughout the region and provide assistance and legal advice where required;
+ Assist the Senior Legal Counsel with his / her day to day functions and provide legal and or administrative support where required;

+ Draft, review and negotiate contracts (which includes construction contracts and other standard / non-standard contracts);

+ Review and advise on all legal documents executed by AECOM, including (but not limited to) tender documents, contracts, employment agreements, MoUs, and bonds;

+ Assist with the bid process and specifically identifying legal and commercial risks associated with each opportunity;

+ Manage claims and litigation matters in the region;

+ Engage with and manage external lawyers where necessary;

+ Develop a detailed knowledge of the laws, policies and procedures that applies to AECOM Africa;

+ Advise AECOM on its rights and responsibilities under applicable laws;

+ Advise on AECOM’s responsibilities and minimizing AECOM’s risks under applicable ethics and compliance laws and regulations;

+ Assist with ensuring compliance with AECOM’s policies and procedures, including the Delegations of Authority;

+ Provide proactive, solutions focused, legally sound advice and support in a timely fashion to AECOM Africa and its stakeholders.

+ Agility in changing circumstances;

+ Can do attitude and willingness to perform assigned tasks.

Minimum Requirements

+ Minimum 2 (two) years post admission experience;

+ Knowledge of construction Contracts (FIDIC, NEC, GCC, JBCC).

The following experience is strongly desirable:
+ Practical experience at a reputable law firm;

+ Africa Region experience preferred;

+ Construction / engineering industry experience;

+ Strong contracts capabilities and experience;

+ Ethics & Compliance experience (including knowledge of Anti-bribery and corruption – and PFMA legislation and requirements).

Preferred Qualifications

+ Bachelor of Laws from a reputable University;

+ Admission as Attorney;
