Wool and Mohair Value Chain Competitiveness Project
The Government of the Kingdom of Lesotho through the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition (MAFSN) has just started implementation of the Wool and Mohair Value Chain Competitiveness Project (WaMCoP), which is a 7 years project that covers the 10 districts of Lesotho. The project is financed by the Government of Lesotho, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), OPEC Fund for International Development, Global Environment Facility and beneficiary’s contributions. The projects overall goal is to increase the economic and climate resilience of wool and mohair value chain stakeholders, with emphasis on wool and mohair farmers’ livelihoods, including women and youth. The MAFSN has established the key positions of the project coordination unit and would like to make a call to the relevant professionals for the following additional positions:
Position : Assistant Knowledge Management Officer
Reports to : M&E Officer
Duty Station: Maseru
Job Summary:
Reporting directly to the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, the Assistant Knowledge Management Officer (AKMO) will support knowledge management and communication activities, practices and learning activities within the project areas. S/he will document the best practice of project activities and ensure learning.
In line with WaMCoP mainstreaming themes, knowledge management and communications will also aim at creating a broader societal awareness on key areas of concern, such as child labour in the wool and mohair sector, the existential threat to households and communities posed by landscape degradation. Through TV, radio campaigns and other awareness activities, the AKMO will publicise the project activities and also raise awareness on HIV prevention and gender-based violence. The incumbent will support the WaMCoP-LNFOD partner for showcasing successful cases of farmers with disabilities, with the intent of reducing the stigma around employment of People with Disabilities (PwDs) in agriculture. In collaboration with ROLL, school visits will be organised to areas with successful rangeland management initiatives, as well as to cottage industries where PwDs are employed.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Support development of project management strategies.
- Identify new areas and analyse existing knowledge management support in project activities.
- Provide advice on how the project staff can integrate knowledge management and learning in their activities.
- Support the development and dissemination of knowledge and experience through enhanced communication, strengthened knowledge products and publications.
- Propose and promote creative solutions for knowledge management in the project.
- Prepare knowledge management analytical reports.
- Coordinate and oversee working relations with all local project stakeholders and serve as liaison between them and project staff.
- Professionally document and proactively share information and learning from projects with stakeholders as necessary.
- Work with M&E Officer to ensure that key learnings are incorporated in upcoming proposal plans and interventions.
- Support project staff in developing quality project reports and providing the necessary data to incorporate past learning.
- Ensure quality of data reported and verify all data and information from sources periodically on sample basis.
- Work with other project staff to produce case studies; best practices; lessons learned and project audit documents for internal and external use.
- Participate in conducting data quality audits and review it frequently.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Knowledge Management/ Journalism/ Communication Development/ International Relations from a recognised university plus a minimum of 3 years of work experience in the field of knowledge management, Communications Management or
international Relations. - Professional record producing a wide range of communication tools will be a plus
Skills and Competencies
- Experience in designing knowledge management strategies and operational plans.
- Experience in communication and knowledge management related to agriculture and climate change is an asset.
- strong ability to translate technical information to a wide variety of target groups.
- Knowledge of the Development Partners frameworks (IFAD, OPEC and GEF).
- Previous experience with any mentioned above development partner is considered as an advantage.
- Experience in public relations and external communication, dissemination campaigns and awareness-raising.
- Experience in graphic design, layout, and/or web-page management is an added value
- Display of sensitivity regarding sustainable development, indigenous and gender issues
- Capacity to produce high-quality briefs and reports in English
- Proficiency in Ms PowerPoint, Ms Excel and any other quantitative data analysis tool
- Ability to design KM tools and surveys
- Demonstrated ability to train and build capacity of others
Mode and Duration of Contract
The duration of the assignment will be three years, renewable depending on satisfactory performance.
