qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Finance Officer – Payroll in the Bursary.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
Relevant qualifications: Degree in B com accounting or equivalent with one years’ experience in payroll function.
Knowledge of Integrated Tertiary Software and other similar Accounting
packages will be an added advantage
Duties and Responsibilities
Undertake the day to day functions of the University payroll function.
Ensure security of payroll information.
Ensure accuracy of staff salary payments before submission for signature.
Assist in administering accurate PAYE deductions and maintain proper record thereof.
Advise supervisor regarding areas of improvement to increase efficiency of the University payroll matters.
Assist in timely and accurate capturing of payroll data and payment of staff salaries including allowances, overtime,
gratuities and deductions.
Attend to staff queries related to salaries.
Preparation, record keeping of all payroll entries as well as monitoring, advising, and instructing preparers on the correct input of entries into the system.
Liaise with Treasury section on identifying deposits and payments in the salaries account
Liaise with Human Resources on any changes and queries on payroll data.
Preparation and reconciliation of monthly payments to third parties.
Assist in the facilitation of both internal and external audits of the payroll functions.
Assist in the preparation and issuing of the employee tax certificates.
Maintain and monitor staff loans.
Perform other duties as assigned by authorities from time to time Knowledge, Skills and Attributes/Abilities
Self-starting personality with the ability to work independently and make decisions. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple
responsibilities simultaneously.

Experience in researching bank entries including internet banking.
Skill in monitoring internal controls and identifying potential issues.
Experience in providing excellent customer service and maintaining effective working relationships with multiple stakeholders.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment that is rapidly changing.
Ability to work under pressure.
Ability to work independently and overtime under tight time constraints as required at peak reporting periods.
Experience working in high volume payroll transactions environment
Extensive and in-depth knowledge of personal computers, IT applications, on-line computerised and integrated financial and information system.
Excellent excel & PC modelling skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
An understanding of accounting concepts and principles

The University offers salaries and other benefits commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Permanent and pensionable/gratuitable for Locals and Contract for Non-Locals.
