JOB SUMMARY

The Assistant Accountant will provide timely and accurately accounting principles and service to Riders for Health in line with the organisation’s financial policies and procedures. He/She will assist and support the Accountant to produce monthly financial reports using Riders for Health accounting software and ensure budget monitoring, cash flow projections, financial controls and operating systems are functioning and diligently enforced according to Riders for Health standard operating procedures.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Prepare and post accounting entries in the accounting software on daily basis
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of accounting transactions in accordance with financial procedures
  • Process Staff & Vendor third party payments and prepare payment vouchers with respective supporting documents
  • Receiving Invoice/request of Payments together with Delivery Note and process payments timely.
  • Proper filing of relevant supporting documents for future reference and in preparation for audit
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliation
  • Preparation of monthly journal entries for review
  • Ensure proper inventory control of parts supplied and alert management at restock levels
  • Manage petty cash accounts in line with the organizational and donor requirements and deadlines
  • Ensure timely submission of statutory returns and VAT claims according to Lesotho Labor Laws.
  • Uphold to the organizational financial and internal control system.
  • Participate in Internal and External Audits by preparing and providing Auditors with Accounting Documents as requested.
  • Maintain an inventory register for all project assets
  • Supports the finance team in preparation of progress reports and budgets.
  • Ensure accruals and prepayment concepts are applied to processed transactions
  • Collaborate with Accountant and finance manager to ensure smooth running of an organization’s accounts department
  • Oversee the collection, deposit, and reconciliation of bank funds and accounts
  • Posting of expenditures/payment vouchers/transactions into the accounting software package
  • Ensure confidentiality and security of all financial records
  • Preparation and making payment for miscellaneous expenses
  • Updating and maintaining monthly unpaid suppliers listing or account payable listing
  • Maintaining and updating replacement parts used from stock manually on excel spreadsheet.

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND QUALITIES:

Essential

  • CAT or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or any related field from a local and or internationally recognized accounting institution.
  • Minimum of three years hands- on accounting experience
  • Knowledge of the use of Pastel Accounting Software will be an added advantage

    Knowledge, skills and abilities required:

  • Three years (minimum) of accounting experience in a public or private sector organization
  • Experience with international donor environment
  • Computer literacy and knowledge of accounting software systems (e.g., PASTEL)
  • Strong team player with proven communication, problem solving and collaborative skills.
  • Possess strong accuracy, attention to details and ability to follow-through.
  • Highly organized with ability to meet deadlines, troubleshoot and problem solve.
