Position Advertisement: Assistant Accountant

The Ministry of Health has received support from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) under the project titled:
“Strengthening Ministry of Health’s Capacity (MOH-Cap) for HIV Diagnosis, Treatment and Monitoring in the Kingdom of Lesotho.”
The Ministry is looking for a suitable candidate for the position of Assistant Accountant.


Position Details

  • Position Title: Assistant Accountant
  • Program: Ministry of Health – CDC Cooperative Agreement
  • Duty Station: Ministry of Health Headquarters, Maseru
  • Level of Effort: Full-time
  • Duration: Ten (10) months; renewable subject to performance and availability of funding
  • Reporting to: Project Accountant

Objective of the Position

The objective of the Assistant Accountant is to assist in processing financial information for use in the Projects Accounting Unit (PAU) under strict deadlines and standards.


Main Tasks

  1. To assist in processing timely payments to suppliers and contractors, ensuring all payments and expenditures align with annual work plans.
  2. To capture financial information into the accounting system (TomPro, ERP, and Payroll system).
  3. To prepare monthly bank reconciliation statements for assigned project bank accounts.
  4. To maintain adequate financial records and books of accounts for assigned projects.
  5. To assist in ensuring remittance of taxes to RSL is done timely.
  6. Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications and Experience

Education:

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from a recognized institution.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2–3 years’ experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or financial administration.
  • Experience with accounting software (e.g., TomPro, ERP).
  • Practical experience in accounts payable/receivable, bank reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Experience on donor-funded projects or public sector accounting will be an added advantage.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong analytical and numerical skills.
  • High accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Integrity, confidentiality, and commitment to deadlines.
