Applications are invited from suitably qualified local candidates for the following position tenable in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition:

TITLE: Area Technical Officer (Mechanization)
GRADE: E
RESPONSIBLE TO: Area Extension Officer
LOCATION: DAO Maseru
NO. OF POSITIONS: One (1)
JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Area Extension Officer, the incumbent is responsible for improving agricultural machinery management, enhancing machinery productivity, and maintaining agricultural implements.
MAIN DUTIES
1. Improvement of Agricultural Machinery Management
- Trains farmers on machinery charges to promote cost-effective operations.
- Develops training programmes on procurement and replacement of agricultural machinery.
- Trains machinery operators on performance standards and specifications for machinery selection.
- Guides operators on selecting appropriate size and type of draught power sources.
2. Improvement of Agricultural Machinery Productivity
- Collaborates with technical staff to conduct demonstrations on machinery utilization.
- Works with the District Agricultural Engineer to assess and procure machinery parts.
- Coordinates with stakeholders to ensure availability of spare parts and technical experts for servicing various machinery types.
3. Repairing and Maintaining Agricultural Implements
- Assesses spare parts needed for repairs and advises the storeman for procurement.
- Ensures spare parts are used appropriately and accountably.
- Rationalizes and allocates machinery for adequate distribution and service delivery.
- Compiles district breakdown lists for repairs and maintenance.
JOB SPECIFICATION
Education and Training Requirements:
- Diploma in Agricultural Mechanization
OR - Certificate in Agricultural Mechanization with three (3) years of relevant work experience

- Computer literacy
- Leadership skills
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Extension methods skills
- Technical reporting and writing skills
- Training skills
