Applications are invited from suitably qualified local candidates for the following vacant positions tenable in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition.
Position Title: Area Technical Officer (Crops)

Responsible To: Area Extension Officer

Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Area Extension Officer, the Area Technical Officer (Crops) will be responsible for facilitating the identification and prioritization of community problems through the Action Learning Circle, development and implementation of community action plans, coordination of sub-sectional activities, and preparation of sub-sectional budgets.
Main Duties
1. Facilitation of Community Problem Identification and Prioritization
- Guide farming communities in identifying and prioritizing their development challenges
- Assist communities in analyzing root causes of prioritized problems
2. Development of Community Action Plan
- Provide crop production technology information to support problem-solving
- Guide the development of community action plans with clear roles, responsibilities, and targets
3. Implementation of Community Action Plan
- Advise farmers on trial methods for crop production
- Train farmers in collaboration with Subject Matter Specialists (SMS)
- Arrange study tours and farmer-to-farmer visits
- Promote and train farmer extension facilitators
4. Coordination of Sub-Sectional Activities
- Liaise with sub-sectional heads to support crop activities
- Convene monthly planning and reporting meetings
- Engage stakeholders to ensure consistent and integrated implementation
5. Preparation of Sectional Budget
- Prepare annual sub-sectional budgets
- Negotiate and justify budgets during divisional discussions
- Recommend budget reviews to align with changing business plans
Job Specification
Education and Training:
- Diploma in General Agriculture or Agricultural Education
OR - Certificate in General Agriculture with three (3) years of relevant working experience
