JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: Arbitrator
Location: South Region – Mafeteng
Reporting to: Director, DDPR


About the Directorate of Dispute Prevention and Resolution (DDPR):
The Directorate of Dispute Prevention and Resolution (DDPR) is a statutory body established in terms of the Labour Act 2024. A semi-autonomous tribunal answerable to the Industrial Relations Council (IRC), as its Governing Body. Its main functions are to prevent and speedily resolve trade disputes through conciliation and/or arbitration and to advise the employers, employees or their organisations on the prevention of trade disputes at source.

The Directorate invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Arbitrator, tenable at the South Region – Mafeteng. The position is answerable to the Director in the performance of his/her duties and responsibilities.

Requirements

  • LLB Degree plus Post Graduate Diploma in Labour Law (Conciliation and Arbitration) with at least four (4) years’ working experience in Labour Law.
    OR
  • LLB Degree with at least six (6) years’ working experience in either conflict management, labour law litigation and/or dispute resolution.
  • A Master’s Degree in Labour Law will be an added advantage.
  • Ability to act independently, impartially and fairly.
  • Ability to manage conciliation and arbitration proceedings.
  • Knowledge of the applicable Labour laws and an understanding of the Lesotho Labour Relations system and processes.
  • Computer literacy, excellent communication and writing skills with fluency in both Sesotho and English.
  • A valid Driver’s License is required.

Responsibilities

  • Prevents disputes at source and resolves through conciliation.
  • Speedily resolves referred disputes through conciliation or arbitration.
  • Draws clear and implementable settlement agreements for the parties after successful conciliation.
  • Draws and issues arbitral awards timely.
  • Conducts research about the new developments in Labour Law and Labour Relations.
  • Brings to the attention of the Director any significant award.
  • Issues monthly performance reports and submits to the Director timely.
