POSITION OBJECTIVE:
As part of hospital health care team, you shall provide anaesthetics to patients for surgery and intensive care. Your main responsibility is to care for patients before, during and after surgery making sure that they are safe and comfortable. The main job would also include resuscitation of patients and emergency care. You should also be familiar with procedures, policies and organisational culture.
MAIN DUTIES:
– Evaluating and preparing patients, providing education about surgery and recovery; discussing the effects of anaesthesia
– Examining patients’ histories for allergies or illnesses that might affect anesthesia
– Prepares and sets up equipment for Anaesthesia procedures.
– Prepare patients for surgery by explaining any risks or side effects.
– Give anaesthesia to patients.
– Observe and monitor patients during surgery, responding quickly to any changes.
– Ensure proper sedation and pain management either acute or chronic.
– Resuscitate and stabilise patients in the emergency department.
– Resuscitate patients promptly at any setting of the hospital.
– Work in close collaboration with the related teams and units
– Ease pain after an operation.
– Document every piece of work done on the patient file or relevant books available in the institution.
– Cleans and sterilizes anaesthesia instruments and equipment.
– Do monitoring, induction and intubation of patients.
– May assist with transporting and monitoring patients.
– Maintains department equipment by evaluating performance, inspecting defects and scheduling repairs.
– Orders anaesthesia supplies and equipment and ensures they are well stocked.
– You will work long hours including nights and weekends and you will be part of out-of- hour’s rota system.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
– A Registered Degree in Anaesthesia / Diploma in Anaesthetic Nursing
– General Nursing and Midwifery
– A person in this position typically has at least four years of experience in anaesthesia.
– Must be registered with LNC
– Should be a member of professional association.
