The International Disability Alliance (IDA) is the global voice of persons with disabilities, bringing together over 1,500 organizations of persons with disabilities and their families across eight global and six regional networks. With member organizations around the world, IDA represents an estimated 1.3 billion people worldwide living with disabilities.

IDA’s mandate is to advance the rights of persons with disabilities and promote disability inclusion in global development, including within United Nations processes. IDA supports organizations of persons with disabilities (OPDs) to advocate for change and hold governments accountable at local, national, regional, and international levels.

The Position

IDA is seeking an Alliance Strengthening Senior Officer.

Position Start Date: 1 April 2026
Location: Remote
Contract Duration: Until 31 December 2026 (3‑month probation)
Employment: Hybrid consultancy agreement, full‑time
Level: 6
Line Manager: Alliance Strengthening & Member Support Senior Manager
Direct Supervision: None

The Alliance Strengthening Senior Officer advances cohesion, collective leadership, and strategic collaboration across the IDA Alliance. The role supports collaboration among IDA members and facilitates cross‑movement partnerships with feminist organizations, older persons’ networks, youth‑led movements, Indigenous Peoples’ organizations, and other rights‑based constituencies.

This position directly contributes to IDA’s Impact Strategy 2025–2030, particularly Strategic Objective 5:
“Increase, diversify and democratize IDA’s membership, and leverage the strengths of each IDA member to maximize the impact of the global OPD movement.”


Duties & Key Responsibilities

1. Alliance Cohesion, Coordination & Member Collaboration

• Serve as focal point for strengthening collaboration across global and regional IDA members
• Design and facilitate structured collaboration spaces (dialogues, working groups, joint planning)
• Support development of common advocacy priorities and coordinated positions
• Strengthen trust, participation, and equitable voice across members
• Track collaboration dynamics, identify bottlenecks, and recommend solutions

2. Cross‑Social Movement Engagement & Partnership Building

• Develop and implement IDA’s approach to cross‑movement collaboration in line with CRPD principles
• Build strategic relationships with feminist networks, older persons’ organizations, youth movements, Indigenous Peoples’ organizations, and other social justice actors
• Facilitate joint initiatives, exchanges, and learning spaces
• Support co‑creation of joint statements, policy asks, and advocacy actions
• Ensure engagement remains OPD‑led, rights‑based, and accountable to persons with disabilities

3. Strategic Facilitation, Joint Learning & Movement Strengthening

• Convene alliance‑wide consultations, strategy sessions, and peer learning processes
• Support internal capacity strengthening on intersectionality and coalition‑building
• Document and share lessons learned and promising collaboration models
• Promote inclusive facilitation and accessible engagement methods
• Coordinate with IDA teams to align alliance‑strengthening with advocacy, programmatic, and governance processes

4. Planning, Monitoring, Knowledge & Reporting

• Contribute to annual work planning, budgeting, and tracking
• Develop indicators and tools to monitor quality and outcomes of member collaboration
• Prepare briefs, concept notes, reports, and internal updates
• Support evidence generation on alliance and cross‑movement collaboration
• Ensure documentation and reporting complies with IDA’s strategic framework and donor expectations


Skills and Requirements

1. Education and Qualifications

• Master’s degree in international development, public policy, social sciences, human rights, political science, or related field

2. Experience

• Minimum 7 years experience in coalition‑building or alliance coordination at regional/international level
• Experience facilitating multi‑stakeholder collaboration and joint advocacy
• Experience across social justice movements and/or intersectional rights agendas
• Strong familiarity with OPDs and disability rights frameworks (preferred)
• Experience in Global South contexts (preferred)

3. Technical and Functional Skills

• Strong understanding of CRPD, intersectionality, and human rights‑based approaches
• Excellent facilitation, relationship management, and engagement skills
• Strong strategic thinking and political analysis
• Excellent writing, synthesis, and reporting abilities
• Ability to manage complex processes and competing priorities
• Fluency in English; additional UN languages an asset

4. Additional Assets (Desirable)

• Persons with disabilities strongly encouraged to apply
• Experience with network governance or alliance architecture
• Familiarity with feminist, youth, Indigenous, and/or older persons’ movements
