2022 Africa Geographic Photographer of the Year is open for entries from 1 February 2022 to midnight on 30 April 2022. Judging will take place during the month of May 2022 and the winners will be announced in early June 2022.

Requirements

  • Entrants must be 18 years and older.
  • Photos that have at any time before the finalisation of this competition won other photographic competition/s (including subject-category winners) will not be considered.
  • Entrants that are previous winners of this competition may enter in subsequent years.
  • Employees of Africa Geographic and our sponsors may not enter.

Prizes:

1. CASH PRIZES OF USD10,000

The winner will receive a cash prize of USD5,000 and the two runners-up will receive a cash prize of USD2,500 each

2. SAFARI PRIZES

On safari in the Khwai Private Reserve, Botswana with our CEO 

The overall winner (plus partner) and the two runners-up (plus their partners) will enjoy a group safari with our CEO Simon Espley and his wife Lizz.

Dates (five nights): Arriving 27 August 2022 and departing 1 September 2022.

Transport: Winners must organise their own transport to and from Maun International Airport in Botswana, and overnight costs in Maun (if required). Africa Geographic will sponsor the transfers to and from Maun and Khwai Private Reserve.

Costs: Africa Geographic covers all costs of the trip from departure from Maun to Khwai – excluding gratuities and items of a personal nature.

How do I enter?

  • Entries may be submitted by email ([email protected]) or via our online entry form.
  • Entries submitted via either method should not exceed 2MB in size (per photo) and multiple entries are permitted.
  • Entries must be submitted in JPG or PNG format.
  • We may request RAW and higher resolution photos, and refusal will result in that photo being disqualified and any awarded prizes forfeited.
  • Do not add borders or copyright watermarks – we will add a copyright symbol and your name.
  • Entries should be a faithful representation of the original scene. Post-production adjustments should be used appropriately and not to deceive the viewer or misrepresent reality. No composite images will be permitted.
  • Please provide EITHER your Facebook OR Instagram username/handle (@username) if you would like us to tag you if/when we share your photo.
  • Please label each of your photographs in the following order: Your Full name.subject/species.Location. For example: John Smith.mountain gorilla.Bwindi. If the photo is of a person please include the person’s name in the label, if those details are available.
  • Please provide a brief description/caption for your photographs.
