Since 2004, GIZ has partnered with the African Union (AU) to enhance inclusive growth and sustainable development in line with Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want.
The Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP), established in 2007, is a strategic dialogue framework between Africa and the EU to improve access to secure, affordable, and sustainable energy for both continents, with a focus on increasing investment in Africa’s energy infrastructure.
The AEEP Secretariat, hosted by GIZ, ensures communication, information sharing, and alignment between European and African actors. Its work is structured under three pillars:
- Fostering political dialogue
- Enhancing knowledge and visibility
- Catalysing implementation of key continental initiatives (e.g., Africa’s Continental Power Systems Masterplan, Africa Single Electricity Market, Africa-EU Green Energy Initiative)
Core Tasks
- Oversee and/or contribute to AEEP knowledge products (policy briefs, analyses, news items) and provide content-related inputs to AEEP workstreams.
- Support regular communication and coordination with key stakeholders.
- Oversee AEEP governance processes, including Steering Group expansion and onboarding.
- Support the Head of Secretariat in project management tasks (budget, acquisition, strategy, and planning).
- Act as AEEP focal point for monitoring and evaluation within GET.Pro.
- Assist communications and events team with content and event organization.
- Represent AEEP at events and discussions as delegated.
Required Qualifications
- Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in engineering, political science, development policy, economics, or related field.
- At least 5 years’ professional experience in cooperation projects with African institutions in the energy sector.
- At least 5 years’ relevant experience in the energy sector, particularly energy transition, renewables, and energy access in Africa.
- Strong knowledge of African-European energy landscape and AU/EU priorities.
- Experience in reporting, monitoring tools, and data analysis.
- Strong project management, analytical, and writing skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Fluency in English.
Desirable:
- Experience in inter-organisational networks and partnerships.
- Experience with AU Institutions, European Commission, or BMZ.
- Knowledge of German and/or French.

- Duration: 01 December 2025 – 30 June 2027
- Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
- Travel: Required within Africa and to Europe
- Eligibility: Open to nationals of AU member states
