The Africa CDC has launched a new Mental Health Leadership Programme (AMHLP) to address the African population’s mental health challenges.
Funded by Wellcome, the programme forms part of the Africa CDC’s continental strategic priorities on NCDs, Injuries, and Mental health, which lays out a clear pathway for coordinated actions and support for Member States on public mental health.
The programme has four pillars which are:
- Support the integration of Mental health into the existing Africa CDC Kofi Annan Global Health Leadership Programme
- Establish an African Field Epidemiology Training Programme (FETP) in Global Mental Health.
- Implement the Short Public Mental Health Leadership Courses
- Strengthen the Networking and Civil Society Engagement
Mental Health Leadership and Advocacy Course scheduled for the period from 2nd to 13th March, 2026 University of Zimbabwe, Harare.
Africa CDC Mental Health Leadership Programme (MHLP) will sponsor public health professionals, mental health enthusiast and persons with lived experience with innovative projects to strengthen mental health systems in Africa to attend the course in Harare, Zimbabwe.
MHLP is a three-year flagship programme aimed at preparing leaders to apply multifaceted approaches to understand and address mental health on the continent through a public health and human rights lens, to influence mental health policy, legislation and practice at all levels of the healthcare systems.
