JOB SUMMARY:

Under supervision of the Chief Aeronautical Information Services
Officer (SAISO), the Aeronautical Information Services Officer
(AISO) is responsible for observing, collecting and promulgating
appropriate aeronautical information or information suspected to be
hazardous    to    civil    aviation    operations,    in    the    airspace,
airports/airfields   included,   in   the   vicinity   of   Moshoeshoe 1
International   Airport   and   further,   operational   supervision   of
Aeronautical   Information   Services   Assistant   (AISA)   in   the
Communication Operations (COM OPS) and International NOTAM
Office (NOF).

Main Duties:

Observation of potential hazards

•  Notes any movement of earth-moving equipment into area of
     responsibility, and follows up to establish the intent and area of activity.

•  Notes any construction of buildings, near aerodromes/airfields
     and Moshoeshoe 1 International Airport, to establish location and heights relating to arrival and departure flight paths.

•    Notes any use of explosives, in areas of construction, to establish location and limitations of the activities.

•    Notes the contents of incident/post-flight reports submitted by flight crews.

Consultation with appropriate authorities

•    Attend aerodrome operational meetings and/or studies minutes, of such meetings, to note planned activities that may adversely affect civil aviation operations.

•    Meet airport civil works technicians to confirm any planned construction or demolition activities.

•    Meet airport civil works technicians to confirm any planned construction of roads involving usage of explosive devices.

•    Takes immediate action to meet construction supervisors, where activities, of such construction, adversely affect the civil aviation operations, for collection of relevant information.

Collection of information

•  Records accurate and valid details of changes in the status
     of runways/taxiways, vehicles/equipment etc., in the Airport Facilities Information Register.

•  Records accurate and valid details of changes in the status
     of Immigration/Customs, Fire Cover/Air Traffic Services etc., in the Airport Services Information Register.

•    Records accurate and valid details of changes in the status of Navigational Aids and Telecommunication Facilities in the Air Navigation Facilities Information Register.

•    Records accurate and valid details of the cranes, buildings, towers, antennae etc., within/outside the airport, in the Obstacle Information Register.

•    Records accurate and valid details of demolitions/blasting activities,    firing/shooting,    parachute    jumping    etc., within/outside  the  airport,  in  the  Navigation  Warning Register.

Reporting of information

•  Fills up relevant aeronautical information promulgation
     advice   forms,   and   transmits   the   information   to   the appropriate   recipients,   as   soon   as   possible,   through Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunication Network (AFTN) or facsimile.

Office administration

•  Maintains    the    Lesotho    Aeronautical    Information
     Publication (AIP), allocated to the respective aerodrome AIS Unit.

•  Maintains  a  register  and  folders  containing  NOTAM
     Summary,    aeronautical    information    publication – amendments    (AIP-AMD),    aeronautical    information publication – supplements (AIP-SUP) and aeronautical information circulars (AIC), issued by Lesotho.

•    Maintains a database of NOTAM issued by Lesotho, in the aerodrome AIS Unit.

•    Maintains   an   annual   register   and   folders   containing circulars, savingrams and directives received from relevant departmental,   ministerial   and   public   service   offices regarding administration and operations of public entities.

•    Maintains   an   annual   register   and   folders   containing correspondence, warnings, notifications etc. restricting or limiting the civil aviation operational activities.

Budgeting and Acquisition

o  Draws  up  and  submits  an  annual  budget,  to Aeronautical Information Services headquarters for acquisition of stationery, equipment, furniture etc.

o  Draws  up  requisition  forms  for  acquisition  of     materials   and   items,   and   submits   to   Senior Aeronautical   Information   Services   Officer   for recommendation.

•    Orders stationery stores and submit them to Storekeeper.

QUALIFICATIONS:

•  Diploma in Aeronautical Information Services or Aerodrome Flight Information Services

OR

•  C.O.S.C plus Certificate related to Aviation
     OR

•  COSC or Metric with Passes in Geography, English, Physical Science and Mathematics.
