About the role

We are looking for an Advisor: Security Investigations to investigate all security incidents and ensure relevant dockets are created supported by crime scene exhibits to be used for the successful prosecution of perpetrators.

Reporting to the Superintendent: Security Investigations, you will:

  • Conducts investigations in line with Group Compliance Investigations Standards and align with local justice system investigations practices.

  • Respond to each and every security incidents and collect crime exhibits and evidence required for further investigations.

  • Continuously review effectiveness of investigations dockets against prosecution outcomes, identify learnings and ensure these are used to set improvement targets for the next investigation case.

  • Develop in investigations plan and ensure this is shared and submitted for approval to the Superintendent prior to commencing with investigations.

  • Conducting Investigations on all other instances as and when required and directed by the Superintendent Investigations and in accordance with Rio Tinto The Way We Work.

  • Provide investigations reports in accordance to establish procedures and protocols, submit progress reports timely for perusal by the Superintendent Investigations.

  • Liaise with police investigators continuously and ensure that evidence collected is aligned and represent the required information for a successful court prosecution.

    Pro-Active Learnings

  • Conduct investigation and present outcomes with recommendations that identify areas requiring improvement and to reduce potential recurrence.

  • Engage with Security Operations teams continuously and share observations and learnings gathered that could be implemented to improve asset threat vulnerability.

  • Visit each and every crime scene and establish criminal behaviour trends, inform Superintendent of your observations for further planning and follow up.

  • Collect all reports, thoroughly check the information provided and take preliminary statements before handing over the required documents to the Police Investigating Officer.

  • Ensure a duplicate docket is created and kept with the Superintendent Investigations, this docket will be similar to the one sent to police for further prosecution processes.

    Disciplinary and Court Proceedings

  • Attend and present evidence and required investigations exhibits for court procedures and disciplinary hearings as and when required.

  • Ensure witnesses interviewed during investigations are present and available to present their statements as and when required.

  • Develop statements that are eligible and factual


    About you



    To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Diploma in Investigations

  • EB License


  • Training:
    Any industrial security-related training would be advantageous and could potentially increase effectiveness in this role.

  • Candidate should have 5 years’ experience of leading investigations teams at mining, vehicle manufacturing industry or petroleum industry.
