About the role

We are looking for an Advisor: Health & Safety To provide an effective H&S Service, in consultation with Safety Superintendent, to a designated Division in accordance with the respective service delivery requirements in order to ensure optimum H&S performance and legal compliance within the Division. This service is expanded to the contractors at RBM to ensure compliance to Rio Tinto Standards and legislative requirements.

Reporting to the Superintendent: Safety and working in a collaborative community within the HSE team, you will:

  • Assist with the monitoring of compliance to the Rio Tinto Health and Safety Performance Standards and H&SQMS requirements.
  • Ensure that Rio Tinto Health and Safety requirements are identified and communicated as well as understood.
  • Facilitate and perform comprehensive H&S systems and compliance audits.
  • Ensure all H&S actions are assigned and tracked to closeout.
  • Monitor and audit RTBS for accuracy and close-out rates – report findings as necessary.
  • Facilitate H&S incident investigations (KPA).
  • Verification of the effectiveness of corrective actions for significant incidents
  • Ensure H&S knowledge is transferred and received to relevant parties including H&S standards and procedures.
  • Coordinate H&S information flow between the respective departments within the relevant division as well as between the division and the H&S department.

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Matric / Grade 12

  • National Diploma in Safety Management or equivalent (advantageous)

  • Licenses/Certifications: EB; OHSAS 18001 or NOSA; ISO 14001, COMSOC, NEBOSH, Incident Investigation/Analysis, Risk Management.

  • Training: SAMTRAC, COMSOC, NEBOSH, Incident Investigation/Analysis, Risk Management.

  • 3 years H&S exposure in a mining or industrial environment (preferably with exposure to ISO, OHSAS, NOSA and SAMTRAC).

  • Have in depth knowledge of a heavy industrial operational environment or mining operation relating to processes and the safe operation of machinery and equipment.

  • Operational experience

  • Insight into the processes and operations of mining and all H&S issues incorporated.

  • Knowledge and experience in the statistical analysis of H&S data and the effective presentation thereof.
