We have an excellent opportunity for an Adviser, Gender and Sustainable Development to join our Economic Youth and Sustainable Development Directorate.

Reporting to the Head of Gender Section, the Adviser will have responsibility for proposing, planning, implementing and reporting on the Gender Section’s work on delivering the Secretariat’s Strategic Plan with respect to women’s economic empowerment, social development and ending violence against women and girls.

Some of the key focus areas of the Gender Section include:

  • Gender equality mainstreamed in national frameworks, policies and programmes.
  • Gender equality mainstreamed in the Secretariat’s programmes and projects and through targeted gender projects.
  • Gender mainstreamed and women are empowered for economic, social and political development.

To be considered, applicants must attain a graduate or post-graduate qualification in economics, development studies, gender/women studies, the humanities, social sciences or a related field. Experience in one or more Commonwealth countries, regional or multilateral organisation or developing countries on gender issues is also desirable.

At least eight years proven track record in the area of gender and socio-economic policy formulation and implementation, socio-economic programme design and delivery reflecting substantive knowledge on poverty eradication, women’s economic empowerment, elimination of violence against women and girls, and gender mainstreaming to economic and trade development would also be an added advantage.
