The Accountant at PIH Lesotho is responsible for the management and reporting of financial data of an organization. Their main duties include preparing financial statements, examining and analyzing organizational accounts, and ensuring compliance with financial reporting and other standard accounting procedures.


Duties and Responsibilities

โ€ข Manage cash flow across bank and mobile money accounts to meet operational needs
โ€ข Record and maintain accurate asset, liability, revenue, and expense entries
โ€ข Capture, review, and update all transactions in the financial system (Serenic)
โ€ข Prepare and support balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow reporting
โ€ข Maintain complete accounting records, including invoices, receipts, bank statements, and vendor files
โ€ข Manage accounts receivable, accounts payable, and vendor reconciliations
โ€ข Perform monthly bank, mobile money, and petty cash reconciliations
โ€ข Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies and system variances
โ€ข Analyze revenues, donations, and expenditures to support management decisions
โ€ข Monitor financial reports against available funds with accuracy and detail
โ€ข Review expenditures and conduct cost-benefit analyses to improve efficiency and value
โ€ข Ensure timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings and statutory submissions
โ€ข Prepare and review VAT, WHT, and other tax-related postings and returns
โ€ข Upload and approve daily mobile money transfers and bank disbursements
โ€ข Capture invoice and expenditure entries for accuracy and compliance
โ€ข Support budget preparation, monitoring, and variance analysis for projects and operations
โ€ข Guide procurement teams on financial documentation and compliance requirements
โ€ข Attend procurement and project meetings related to assigned financial oversight
โ€ข Support internal and external audits and prepare audit documentation
โ€ข Adherence to internal controls, policies, donor rules, and regulations
โ€ข Perform other duties as assigned


Minimum Skills and Qualification

โ€ข Bachelor Degree in Accounting, General Accountant, or equivalent
โ€ข 3 years’ experience in an accounting role, preferably in an NGO setting
โ€ข Advanced Excel skills
โ€ข Experience with donor-funded projects is desirable
โ€ข Strong interpersonal and communication skills
