PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Academic Manager is the custodian of academic integrity on campus level. As such, the incumbent of this position is responsible for academic leadership and accountable for all academic delivery and the quality assurance thereof on the campus in order to ensure a good student experience.

FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Due to nature and size of the organization, it is not possible to provide a complete list of responsibilities that will be all inclusive over time. Responsibilities may change from time to time and will be discussed with the incumbent.

The responsibilities of the Academic Manager thus include, inter alia:

ACADEMIC LEADERSHIP

Provide academic leadership and ensure the high quality and success of all academic services provided to students. Manage and monitor academic PIHE programmes offered by the Campus. Overall management of Programme Coordinators at the Campus. Leadership in research including participation in research activities (campus research committees).

ACADEMIC DEVELOPMENT AND SUPPORT MANAGEMENT

Organising Orientation and Induction Programmes. Facilitate professional development of lecturers on campus.

Identify, track, provide academic support to “at risk students” and report on, and

improve their retention and related academic success.

Manage the academic performance of academic staff and the learners’ progress.

Ensure a fully functional Resource centre providing quality library services.

ACADEMIC MONITORING

Academic monitoring (including class visits, lecturer evaluations).

Control and quality assurance of all academic activities on campus, teaching,

assessment and research.

Ensuring the participation in assessment development by lecturers.

Participation, where appropriate, in student enrolment and administration process.

Managing and monitoring the quality of marking of assessments by lecturers.

Participation, where relevant, in academic meetings

Implementation and monitoring of Turnitin

Research Committee and Academic Committee.

Participation, where relevant, in management meetings.

GENERAL MANAGEMENT

Assist the relevant Dean/HoP in sourcing and recruiting appropriate staff for all modules

offered at the Campus. This includes the recruitment, selection and retaining of staff.

Ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.

Assessment, performance appraisal and motivation of staff.

Staff and student communication.

**Qualifications**

Minimum qualification:
Requires minimum a Masters Degree; a PhD will be an advantage.

Minimum experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years managerial experience within an academic environment
  • Minimum of 5 years Teaching experience
