Environmental Officer – 6 month Fixed Term Contract – Internal and External
Cullinan Diamond Mine is situated in the town of Cullinan, approximately 30km east from Pretoria.
Job Grade: C3 Reference Nr: CUL429
Job Description: Perform environmental management activities in accordance with the Environmental Management System to
ensure compliance by the operation
Tasks and Responsibilities:
Analyse information to compile reports according to stakeholder requirements
Assist in ensuring that objectives and targets are set and reviewed
Assist in the development and updating of environmental procedures
Assist with the identification of environmental risks and impacts
Conduct quarterly environmental inspections, compile an inspection reports and assist in the implementation of corrective
action for non-conformances
Assist the Health and Safety Reps and the Environmental HOD in their activities
Capture environmental incidents/findings on the relevant systems (Isometrix) and assist in implementing corrective action for
non-conformances
Raise awareness on environmental trends in the mine
Continually monitor the effectiveness, suitability and adequacy of the Environmental Management System
Develop, facilitate and present environmental training material according to organisational needs
Ensure the Company complies with its environmental compliance obligations
Report environmental performance during management review meetings, quarterly and monthly meetings
Participate in the internal and external environmental audits
Minimum Requirements:
Grade 12
B.Sc. Degree Environmental Science
Minimum 3 years’ experience as an environmental officer
Computer Literate
Valid Driver’s licence.
Advantageous:
Minimum 2 years’ experience in mining.
Other Skills / Competencies
Knowledge of the National Environmental Management Act and other relevant environmental laws
Training in Environmental Law
Training in the Environmental Management System ISO 14001: 2015
Environmental incidents investigations
Verbal and written communication skills in English; Attention to detail; Accuracy; Planning; Problem solving; Reliability; Pro-
active
