EUFF 2026 SHORT FILM COMPETITION – SMALL SCREENS, BIG STORIES

Theme: TOGETHER

The European Film Festival (EUFF) 2026, in collaboration with the European Union Delegation to Lesotho and Alliance Française de Maseru (AFM), invites young Basotho filmmakers to participate in the EUFF 2026 Short Film Competition.

Under the theme “Together”, participants are invited to create an original fictional short film using only a smartphone, exploring how collaboration, solidarity, and community can inspire positive change.

WHO CAN APPLY?

  • Basotho citizens aged 18–35.
  • Professional, semi-professional, and amateur filmmakers.
  • Participation is free.
  • One film per participant.

FILM REQUIREMENTS

  • Fictional short film.
  • Shot exclusively using a smartphone.
  • Maximum 3 minutes, including credits.
  • MP4 or MOV format.
  • Full HD (1920×1080) or 4K UHD (3840×2160).
  • Rec.709 colour space.
  • Languages: English, Sesotho, or French.
  • English subtitles are required for films not in English.

WHAT’S AT STAKE?

The winner will receive a professional development opportunity and regional exposure through a major South African film festival, with possible support for travel, accommodation, and accreditation.
