UN Lesotho Human Rights Competitions 2018

Are you or do you want to get engaged in Human Rights? – then you should have a look at our competition below!

This year’s 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights acts as a springboard for the global competition (Kids for Human Rights) to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights’. The Universal Declaration is a milestone document in the history of human rights that set out, for the first time, fundamental human rights to be universally protected.

To strengthen advocacy around issues of Human Rights and raising awareness among communities to mark this anniversary, the UN Lesotho is launching a localized version of the international competition inviting in two categories 1) “Kids for human rights” drawing competition for young people aged 10 to 14 and 2) the “#Media4humanrights” competition for media affiliates to take part.

1) The “Kids for human rights” international drawing competition invites young people aged 10 to 14 to produce creative artwork in one of the three themes:

Theme 1: Paint or draw a picture about a human right you feel strongly must be defended.
Theme 2: Paint or draw a picture of someone you admire for their efforts in defending or promoting human rights.
Theme 3: Paint or draw a picture showing how you can defend or promote human rights.

2) The #Media4humanrights competition invites media affiliates to participate in a competition for the best media feature that raises awareness throughout society on persons living with disabilities, and to foster respect for the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities. Media entries can range from published articles to social media information campaigns towards other forms of original and innovative content creation (e.g. short video films/documentaries that feature personal stories of persons with disabilities).

Participants have until 26 November 2018, 5PM to submit their entries. The winners will be announced on 10 December, known worldwide as Human Rights Day.
