The Government of Lesotho and the Lesotho UNDP Country Office are currently implementing a five year (2015-2020 GEF-financed project “Reducing vulnerability from climate change in Foothills, lower Lowlands and Senqu River”. The objective of the project is to mainstream climate risk considerations into the Land Rehabilitation Programme of Lesotho for improved ecosystem resilience and reduced vulnerability of livelihoods to climate shocks. The project will support the integration of climate change adaptation into national and sub-national land use planning and decision-making. The project is being implemented in the southern Lesotho in Mohale’s Hoek District, specifically in the three Community Councils of Lithipeng, Khoelenya and Thaba Mokhele.
This is a 6-year project funded under Global Environment Facility (GEF) and is aimed at increasing ecosystem resilience to climate change in the Mohales Hoek. As part of striving towards achieving Outcomes 2 and 3, the project and the implementing partners have proposed to construct portable water systems to increases access to clean water in the project site to build resilience of households against adverse impacts of predicted water shortages due to climate change. Therefore, UNDP invites interested local contractors in category A and B (according to Department of Rural Water Supply categories) for the construction of Two Earth Dams in the Two Community Councils of Khoelenya and Thaba-Mokhele in the Mohale’s Hoek District.
